Fantasy Super Rugby Week 11: Don’t Touch, Pause, Engage.

Team news is flowing in as we speak, but as ever, keep your eyes on the casualty ward and on the #casualtyward hashtag on twitter for the latest.

Teams on a BYE: Blues, Rebels, Reds.

Teams with Tough Match-ups: Lions, Chiefs

Teams with Easy Match-ups: Hurricanes, Highlanders, Sunwolves (?)

General Transfer and Squad advice:

It’s not a disaster if you can’t fill your bench. At a cost of 20 points per transfer out, the dude on your bench will need to score 40 points …. and how often does that happen. So don’t use transfers for the sake of using transfers, if you’ve got a good 15 out, and a sketchy bench, that’s ok. Focus on that starting 15, captain, and making sure you’re ok for the net couple of weeks.

You only get a 20 point penalty for dropping someone. So what, well, if you drop an expensive player around $400k for instance, and you have some money in the bank, then you might be able to bring in 3 players, but it won’t cost you any points. This has some longer term implications in trying to get expensive players back in, but is a great way of improving your squad.

***BONUS*** right, there’s a key bit of info this week, that @SuperRugbyScout learnt, or at least, we hadn’t picked up before. Players not on a bye who are missing a game because of injury or because they are rested, WILL LOSE A DECENT AMOUNT OF VALUE. Player price is based on a combo of popularity and last 5 games. However, there seems to be a big impact if you miss a game. Take a look at Mapimpi or Ned Hanigan if you want to be sure. Same with Ardie Savea and BB. That factors into some of our advice this week:

  1. SELL: Ben Lam (30% owned) & Rob Du Preez (29% owned)

Ben Lam – injured / being rested. Has been a bust so far in part because Tiatia can’t pass. Get rid of him now before his value dives.

Rob Du Preez – this is less because he’ll dive in value, more because he’s been kak all season and has now lost his place to Bosch.

Lastly, DMck and Folau are still 28% and 19% owned respectively. DROP THESE GUYS you slacking managers.

Marnus Schoeman – so look, he’s only 11% owned now, and has lost his starting spot since Whiteley has returned. However, the main reason he’s here is to make sure everyone’s aware Warren failed his fitness test, so Marnus is starting this week. Roll with him for one more week.

By FAR and away the form player in super rugby and the game, but he’s ONLY 9% owned. WTF.

So yeah, what’s wrong with all your lot – bring Reece in. With Bridge back he looks like he’s secured the other wing spot. Dirt cheap and insane upside. Do IT.

Outside of that there’s some big time players to get in, and I’d still try to make you’ve got a decent sized squad, and as ever these are typically less than 20% owned. I’m not telling you you should have someone like Mo’Unga, that’s kind of like a given:

Curwin Bosch. On fire right now, and starting at FH this week. I don’t like that per say, but it should be ok for a few kicks points. If he stays there, less upside than at FB, especially with the Sharks on tour. Bosch will get dinged with missed tackles at 10.

Josh Ioane. With Banks injured for a few weeks Josh is back in the saddle. He should be good for kicking points. Highlanders have a decent run of games and no byes, AND he’s only $160k. Covering FH and FB is pretty useful considering the players we’ve lost in those positions.

Goosen has been the best wing in terms of points vs minutes played. Cheaper option than Lam at $169k.

Alaimalo / Moeakiola. With DMck gone, Alaimalo is the guy. Love that and has a good track record at 15. Get him involved. I don’t think Ataata will be too far behind. Got all the raw materials, much like Lam, just needs some ball and space.

The last player on the radar is Snyman. Doesn’t seem like he missed a beat since his injury. Ship him in if you need cover at lock.
