Fantasy Super Rugby Week 7: Hit or Miss

What a week ! We saw some epic tries, some superb games, and the offload to top all offloads. And it was points galore for a host of Fantasy Super Rugby names. Here’s our run down of how our picks got on last weekend.

Don’t Touch (SELL)

Image result for green thumbs up Israel Folau 35pts – poor by his old standards, average by the new standards, but plenty of better options last week and Tahs’ on a bye this week. Ideally you ditched him a LONG time ago. (unlike this writer)

Image result for red thumbs down Tahs – First half I was bang on. Then the Hurricanes decided not to play for 40mins and let the Tah’s back in, and there were a number of solid performances this week.

Image result for red thumbs down Stormers – nah, got this wrong as well – classic game. Whilst there were some complete misses – Du Plessis, Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph a late injury, the Stormers had a great game, and were much more effective against the Chiefs defence than I thought. Nuff said about the SP Marais try.

Image result for green thumbs up Highlanders – 4 from 5 of my picks had pretty poor games, and it was only Whitelock who put in a solid week, with Buckman, Banks, Wheeler and Hunt all having poor weeks.

Blues – This was a mixed bag, some solid performances, more so from the forwards, but Collins was good Duffie just ok.

Cheetahs – We’ll have to wait an see with this one dependent on how they fair against the Chiefs …. who will be looking for revenge after their game in Newlands …. I smell fried Cheetah.

Pause (HOLD)

Bossman basically bottled this section last week and told you to hold onto the 2nd best OBK in Julian Savea and 2nd and 4th best Backrows in Kriel and Mafi. It’s solid advice, but it’s like saying, remember to breath. (ranking based on avg pts per game)

Image result for green thumbs up Fekitoa 45pts – Solid. Is he getting back to his best ?

Reds – tough week for the Reds. Kerevi was solid, but Higginbotham was poor. Everyone else crapped out and should have been benched as suggested. However, it’s all about this weekend vs the Kings to see whether holding reds will pay off before their bye.

Image result for green thumbs up Sharks – for the most park performed better than expected from a fantasy points perspective in a low scoring game. Du Preez was back in form, the front row had a good outing, both locks efficient and you could have started Van Wyk, Am, Esterhuizen, Bosch if you had not better options, with only really Am having a crappy week.

Crusaders and Lions – This was my cop out last week, and piece of obvious advice. Both teams should have plenty of good fantasy performances this week.

TahsHooper 44pts seeems back to his consistent best. I have no idea how Foley only got 32 pts, as he should have been at least 50, but he popped up in value and still did ok at a difficult position to fill.  Kepu 38pt was epic. Hopefully you ignored my benching advice, or like me had not other option but to start him  !!

SP Marais – It’s just as well he grabbed that try as he rescued what was going to be a crapper of a week. Plenty of better options on the week, but 39 is perfectly serviceable for a keeper.

Engage (BUY)

Image result for wildcardImage result for red thumbs downScott Higginbotham 16pts / George Smith 28pts – Crappy week as the Reds were worse than expected, but hopefully some payback this weekend.

Image result for green thumbs up Luke Whitelock 40pts – One of the few Highlanders forwards to perform.

Image result for green thumbs up James Lowe 83 pts– top performer of the week. Great call.

Image result for green thumbs up Jordie Barrett 64pts – 3rd highest scorer of the week.

Image result for red thumbs down Backrow – Whilst all these picks were with a long term view all of Matera, Senatore, Higginbotham crapped out this weekend just gone. The test will be over the next few weeks, but not a good first impression.

OBKImage result for red thumbs down I generally gave some crap advice here, and it was all about trusting the premium players through touch match-ups. Tuculet 9pts, Moyano 24pts crapped out. Wes Gossen 61pts was the only good pick. Naiyaravoro 26pts couldn’t get anyting going and Marty Banks 19pts was average at best.

Image result for green thumbs up Brumbies – Hopefully you ignored my OBK advice above and went long Brumbies, who destroyed the Reds. Alcock 80pts was epic. Fardy 36pts was solid. Speight 55 pts, Kuridrani 55pts, Toua 65 pts and Hawera 45 pts were all excellent picks as their position.

Week 7 Lineup:

Image result for green thumbs up 571pts – in a high scoring week, some great picks at Centre and OBK, but let down at lock and the 9/10 axis. Still would have been better than average, and if you’d followed the advice in the captain poll, been around the 650 mark for the week.
