South African Conference Preview

My top 5 South African tried and tested point earners.

Image result for 5 stars no backgroundPieter Steph and Eben Etzebeth(STORMERS) – It’s hard to choose between these two but I feel you must as they are both expensive. Eben is over 150K cheaper so I reckon he will be most people’s choice. Both are great ball carriers and will make you a boat load of points on defense too.

Image result for 5 stars no backgroundRohan Janse van Rensburg(LIONS) – At center for the Lions, he was the Springbok everyone was talking about before the Autumn tests…, not only does his name remind you of The Lord of Rings, he also makes Gandolf look like a part time magician when he has ball in hand. Priced at 471K I hear you say… not buying him early might make him unobtainable later in the competition.

Image result for 4 stars no backgroundHandre Pollard(BULLS) – He scored well in 2015 and with Morne Steyn and Johan Goosen retiring he’ll be looking to make the number 10 Springbok jersey his again. Pollard also enters my list as a bargain with a price tag of 225K. I expect BIG things from him this year. The only downside he is pricey and the Bulls have been average at best of late (Feastjuice will no doubt copy me on this one, standard).

Image result for 4 stars no backgroundRuan Combrink(LIONS), he was solid last year and will be a solid points earner again this year, he sometimes kicks too which can add extra points. I’m just not convinced for he’s worth the 471K price tag.

My 4 Bargains are a lot harder to choose:

Image result for 4 stars no backgroundSenatla(STORMERS) at a mere 112K. The OH-SO-AWESOME 7s Super Star. A bit of a gamble because no-one really knows how he’ll adjust to the 15-man game. That said I’m a Stormer’s man all the way so I am backing him to be a BIG point scorer (Feastjuice will no doubt copy me on this one, standard).

Image result for 4 stars no backgroundRenaldo Bothma(BULLS) is in my backrow, he may not be a Ronaldo but he too has a great average of 34 points and at 112K is hard to beat.

Image result for 3 starsLood de Jager(BULLS) is my back-up lock at 131K, he’ll start most games and may get you 20 points on average per week with the Bulls. This kind of pick can save you in a long season where players get rested or injured.

Image result for 4 stars no backgroundSergeal Petersen(CHEETAHS) at 287K, averaging approx. 30 points per game last year with a high score of 92 points. This guy is all about attack and if the Cheetahs play as well as they did in the Curry Cup, he could be Massive!

Image result for 4 stars no backgroundUzair Cassiem(CHEETAHS) at 372K. If the Cheetahs do well this guy is going make big scores, he’s a work horse, loves to carry the ball, bust tackles as well as make a lot of tackles. The Cheetahs like to rotate a lot and picking him could mean you’ll have to make a transfer due to their system which puts me off.

Image result for 3 starsRobert du Preez(STORMERS) at flyhalf, he’s priced at 166K. He started off last season with two solid 30 point scores. He’s not injured and has huge potential to do well this year.

Curwin Bosch(SHARKS) is my Wildcard pick of the South African Conference. If he gets game time he could set things alight as this youngster is freakishly talented. He is versatile in where he can play and if anyone gets injured at 15 or especially 10 he could his chance. Priced at 112K I’m adding him to my watch-list. I guess to honest I’m very excited about this guy and if I stand back from that, this year might just be a bit too soon for him to make it into my team.
